Who Needs a UK ETA?

UK ETA is required for visa-exempt nationals visiting or transiting through the UK

You NEED an ETA if:

  • You are a national of an eligible country
  • You are visiting the UK for tourism or business
  • You are transiting through the UK (including airside)
  • You are coming for short-term study (up to 6 months)
  • You currently don't need a visa to visit the UK

You DON'T need an ETA if:

  • You are a British or Irish citizen
  • You already have a valid UK visa
  • You have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
  • You are from a country that requires a visa
  • You are traveling directly to Ireland (Common Travel Area)

Important Notes

ETA Does Not Guarantee Entry

Having an approved ETA does not guarantee entry to the UK. Border officers will make the final decision upon arrival.

Transit Requirements

You need an ETA even if you're just transiting through the UK without leaving the airport.

Multiple Entries

Once approved, your ETA allows multiple entries to the UK for 2 years or until your passport expires.
